Redevelopment Construction Updates

Main Street is shifting into high gear! Construction has begun on Main Street and in The Speed Zone. The dirt is moving on Phase One and the project is on schedule to be completed by May 2010, just in time for the month-long celebration of the Indianapolis 500.

Check back for periodic construction updates and photos showing our progress below.

Main Street Construction Timeline:

Phase I: Closed from 11th Street to 13th Street until May 2010
Phase II: Closed from 10th Street to 11th Street from June 2010 to July 2010
Phase III: Closed from 13th Street to the middle of the 1400 block from August 2010 to October 2010
Phase IV: Closed from the middle of the 1400 block to 16th Street from October 2010 to May 2011

Phase 3 of the Main Street project is anticipated to start Monday, August 9th.  Construction signage will be placed a few days prior to that start date.

We will continually work on parking availability throughout Phases 3 and 4 and will post updates as each new solution emerges.

Phase II construction is in full gear. The sanitary sewer installation is complete, along with the water main, storm sewer and service line installation.
VS Engineering continues construction layout. IPL and Infra-Source have completed temporary power.
Road sub-grade prep has started and continues, however the frequent storms have interfered. Stone sub-base will start this week.

Main Street pavers are on display in the parking lot of Speedway Town Hall. The signs show designation for sidewalks, crosswalks and parking areas. Please take a few minutes to stop by so you can visualize the vast improvements to come!
