About

The Speedway Redevelopment Commission consists of five people appointed by the Speedway Town Council. Using input from the entire community, the commission is charged with developing a plan to revitalize a 350-acre area, including Speedway’s Main Street.

The town of Speedway is creating a strategic plan that looks forward 10 or even 20 years to assess potential land use and development strategies.

The Development Area

Our plan is to redevelop a 400-acre area between Main Street on the west, 16th Street on the north, 10th Street on the south and Olin Avenue on the east. The Commission has named this area “The Speed Zone.”

We decided to name this area because we wanted to create a fun, recognizable name and to build an identity for the transformation of Speedway, Indiana.

The goal of The Speed Zone is to create a vibrant, thriving and attractive downtown that fosters growth within the existing business community and encourages the development of new business.

In addition to The Speed Zone, the town of Speedway and the redevelopment commission are in the early planning stages for a second redevelopment area on the northwest side of town. There will be approximately 300 acres of land in 95 separate parcels.
