As the site of the world-famous Indy 500® auto race and other high-profile events, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway has been thrilling race fans for over 100 years with no signs of slowing down! While the races are its premier attractions, IMS offers visitors plenty to see and do year-round, including track tours, museum experiences, gift shopping, golfing and more.
One of the most recognized sports venues in the world, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is located within the Town of Speedway. Each Memorial Day weekend, more than 400,000 motor sports enthusiasts flock to the IMS for what is known as “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing®” — the Indianapolis 500®.
In existence since 1909, the IMS also hosts races such as NASCAR’s Brickyard 400®, the IndyCar® Grand Prix and the Red Bull Indianapolis Air Race. The facility is open daily to the public for tours, which include a ride around the famed 2½ mile oval track.
