Daredevil Brewing will break ground Aug. 22 on a new 10,000-square foot brewery in Speedway.
Twin brothers Shane and Michael Pearson and friend Bill Ballinger opened Daredevil in December 2012 in Shelbyville, but the brewing company already has run out of space.
Daredevil will move all of its operations to the $2 million facility when it’s complete next year on a 2-acre site ust south of the Dallara IndyCar Factory, including a taproom with a full menu. The groundbreaking will be 10 a.m. Aug 22 in the 1100 block of Main Street.
To build thirst for the new brewery, Daredevil will have a beer-tasting festival from 5:30 to 10 p.m. Aug. 22 at the Dallara IndyCar Factory, 1201 Main St.
The festival will feature 20 local, regional and national breweries that have been asked to bring their hoppiest beers and something different.
Participating breweries include Daredevil, Against the Grain, Bell’s, Boulevard, Country Boy, Flat 12, Founders, Goose Island, Great Divide, Jolly Pumpkin, North Peak, Oskar Blues, Rhinegeist, Shmaltz, Sierra Nevada, Stone, The St. Louis Brewery and Triton.
Tickets went cost $25 for general admission and $35 for early entry. For more information, visit hopsfest.eventbrite.com.

18th Street Brewery to distribute in Indy
In Gary, 18th Street Brewery has been receiving rave reviews as one of the best newcomers to the marketplace since opening last year, even working on a recent collaboration beer with renowned Denmark-based Mikkeller.
Now, owner Drew Fox plans to double production by year’s end to 1,000 barrels annually, which will allow him to begin distributing cans to the Indianapolis market through an agreement with Starlight Distributors.
Last year, the website Rate Beer named 18th Street the best new brewer in the state, according to a news release.
“Even before we opened our doors, we’ve had nothing but incredible support from so many people,” Fox said in a prepared statement. “Since we opened last winter, that support has been overwhelming. We really can’t thank people enough for that. We’re ecstatic.”
Flat 12 BierWerks to expand production
Flat 12 BierWerks is installing equipment today that will allow the brewer to triple its capacity and expand production into new markets.
Flat 12 is on pace to brew 10,000 barrels this year from its brewery east of Downtown.
The brewer plans to expand distribution into the Cincinnati market. Flat 12 currently is available in Indiana, near Louisville and throughout Central and Eastern Tennessee.
