Main Street in Speedway is back open to motorists following more than $10 million in improvements.
The project, which began in November 2009, is designed to revitalize downtown and includes road improvements, new sidewalks, bike paths and an upgraded storm water management system.
Leo’s Barber Shop owner Shawn Leo, whose business is located at 15th Street and Main Street, welcomes the reopening with open arms.
“At least 75 percent of our business has been cut, and with the street reopening, I don’t think I’ve ever seen so much traffic down here before, ” Leo said.
The project is part of a $500-million investment to promote growth.
Dallara, the company contracted to build the new IndyCar chassis, plans to open on Main Street later this year. More improvements over the next five years include a roundabout at 16th Street and Georgetown Road.
